These two significant holidays are: The Chinese New Year and The Chinese Moon Festival. They are also the most important and economic holiday for the Surinamese Chinese and also worldwide for the Chinese people. These holidays are not nationally in Suriname as yet. This is not only celebrated by the Chinese but also celebrated by the non-Chinese people. These Chinese holidays are to bring family members together for feasting and share happiness. They come together to enjoy their food on both Chinese New Year and The Chinese Moon Festival. Only on the Chinese Moon Festival, they celebrated by eating the moon cake. The Chinese holidays are celebrated worldwide by Chinese people. 1. 0 2. 0 Introduction The purpose of this research is to present information about the Chinese significant which is important for the Chinese culture. The Chinese people has important holidays, which is celebrated worldwide. These holidays are: The Chinese New Year and The Chinese Moon Festivals. The Chinese New Year is to bring the family together for feasting. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar. The Chinese Moon Festivals is also an important Chinese holiday celebrated by the Chinese. This holiday takes place on the 15th day of the eight Chinese lunar month every year. This paper will give you information based on my research and my own experiences of what the holidayââ¬â¢s means and why it is celebrated. 3. 0 Research Methodology The information of the Chinese Holidays which are The Chinese New Year and The Chinese Moon Festivals is linked to many articles. First, basic information is taken from the internet to have a much better understanding about the Chinese holidays. Also, my other method will be used with my own experience of the two Chinese significant holidays celebrated in Suriname many times. The collected information provide two significant holidays in Suriname. 3. 0 Research Findings Chinese New Year: The Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon and ends on the full moon. It is the commencement of the New Year in the lunar calendar. This holiday is the most important economic and social holiday for the Chinese people. The Chinese New Year starts on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar. This New Year Festival is also called Lantern Festival, because they celebrate this festival at night with lantern displays in a parade. The Chinese calendar is a combination based on the lunar and solar movements. There are two cycles in the Chinese calendar which are: the lunar cycle (about 29. 5 days) and the solar cycle. In the solar calendar, the Chinese insert an extra month once every few years ââ¬Å"(seven years out of a 19-years cycle). â⬠This is the reason why the Chinese New Year falls on a different date every year. The New Yearââ¬â¢s Eve and the New Yearââ¬â¢s Day is usually celebrated by families reuniting and engaging and thanksgiving ceremonies. Traditionally, this holiday focuses on the honoring gods and Heaven and Earth also to ancestors who have passed away. The celebration of the ancestorââ¬â¢s spirits on the New Year is to celebrate the living as one great community. This feast is called by the Chinese ââ¬Å"surrounding the stoveâ⬠or Weilu, which symbolizes the family unity and the honoring the past and present generations. In Suriname, they have associations where all Chinese people comes together and feast. Some family members come together at other family houses. Chinese Moon Festival: The Chinese Moon Festival is also known as the Mid-autumn Festival. This festival is on the 15th of the 8th lunar month. It is also one of the most important traditional events for the Chinese where family comes to reunite. This Moon festival has many legendary stories. Family comes to together to watch the full moon rise. The moon cake is eaten on the moon festival. On Moon Festival in Suriname, they always have a festival at an association named ââ¬Å"The White Lotusâ⬠. Also, different type of cultural people is going there to celebrate the festival. 4. 0 Discussion The findings prove the goal that the information of the two holiday which is linked to Suriname. There are a lot more to tell about the two Chinese significant holiday about the history of Moon festival. In Suriname, the Chinese holidays are not nationally as yet. This is because of the government have not made it nationally as it is in China. Most Chinese people in Suriname have a similar way of how they celebrate their significant holiday. The fact I know this is because I am Chinese and also celebrate these Chinese holidays. 5. 0 Conclusion In conclusion, we can see these holidays, Chinese New Year and Chinese Moon Festival are important because these are the important holidays for the Chinese worldwide. In Suriname, this is celebrated not only by Chinese, but also celebrated and enjoy by other culture. Chinese New Year and Moon festival are not free days in the countries but the Chinese people takes their free days.
